Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:

• Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:  Our doctor has training in both tongue and pulse diagnostics of eastern medicine that she uses in conjunction with western modalities to provide for your pets' complete health care needs.

• Surgical Services:  We refer all our patients needing routine surgical procedures to the doctors at our one of our host hospitals, or the caregiver's regular veterinarian.  For patients requiring advanced surgical techniques like TPLO or exploratory surgery we refer to a surgical specialist at one of the two Veterinary Specialty Services in Kansas City.

• Alternative Therapy:  We offer a variety of alternative therapies including: acupuncture, low energy photon therapy, massage, tuina, flower essence, therapeutic touch, spinal manipulative therapy, cranio-sacral therapy, homeopathy, homo-toxicology and auto-sanguis therapy. We use herbs as well as nutritional supplements and traditional medications to treat the whole animal as opposed to only the symptoms.

•  Laboratory:  Both of our host hospitals have state of the art in-house laboratory facilities provide for parasite testing, serum chemistry, hematology, serology and urinalysis .  We also have pick up services and access to one of the best commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostic tests and consultations.

  • Pharmacy: Our extensive herbal pharmacy allows us to individualize formulas for each pet. In an effort to provide the finest care, we carry a large variety of prescription pharmaceutical grade supplements. Each of our host hospitals has a complete pharmaceutical inventory, including flea control medications and heartworm preventatives.  Most of the over the counter supplements like vitamins, nutritional supplements and neutraceuticals are available in our on-line store, altpetvet.net.  Any medication not on hand can be called into the pharmacy of your choice.

    • Individualized Flea Control Programs:  We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet. 

      • Dietary Counseling:  During your first consultation visit we will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance. Vitamins and dietary supplements are also available to assist with each pet's dietary needs.

        • Behavioral Counseling:  We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression. Herbal supplements and Flower Essence Therapy can also provide help with behavioral and emotional problems.
